Why do people climb mountains?

That’s a good question indeed and I see why many people are asking it! Its tiring, its unknown, it can be very lonely, its dangerous and you sometimes have to travel very far, just to get to your destination!

But for me, being in the mountains is the purest form of exploration. Every mountain and every trek look and feel different! Every climb is a new challenge to overcome and new memories to make!

I have recently uploaded a video on the Hiking Experience YouTube Channel with photos of my hiking experiences from the Greek mountains. Enjoy!

I think that people climb the mountains for their own, personal reasons. Whenever i walk on a mountain path, i find a new reason. As the great George Mallory said:

“We climb for the stone from the top for geologists, the knowledge of the limits of endurance for the doctors, but above all for the spirit of adventure to keep alive the soul of man”.

In mans imagination, mountains are the most secret and at the same time the most attractive wild places on earth, remaining impersonal and inaccessible. However, when you become familiar with the mountains, you learn to approach them discreetly, and suddenly they get friendly and accessible, a precious lesson in the long school of life.
