Chionotripa Chasm at Falakro Mountain (Video)
Chionotripa (literally translated as snow hole in English) is a deep and steep depression with a width of more than 40 meters.
The main feature of this snow hole is the altitude at which it is located (2,100 m) at Falakro mountain range, northeastern Greece.
At its bottom, nearly 100 meters below its entrance, the snow of the winter months does not melt during the summer.
Indeed, decades ago Chionotripa served as a natural refrigerator where animal farmers maintained their dairy products.
At the base of Chionotripa, ther is a cave entrance in which few ever dared to enter.
